In many developing countries a large part of the society is still living in poverty. Considering the decades of development assistance and a booming world economy we should look for the obstacles that prevent societies from becoming wealthy.  

Barun Mitra from the Liberty Institute in New Delhi, India, will name the major obstacles and explain how the situation for today’s poor can be improved. Barun Mitra is promoting the expansion of property rights to the world's poor. Among other things, he is noted for his sceptical few on microcredit strategies in Bangledesh and elsewhere. His lecture at IUF will focus on how governments can open up markets to the poor by making easier for them to access the system where deeds and other legal property instruments are out of reach.
